Musculoskeletal Strength Testing

Duration: 30min

What it is?
Musculoskeletal Strength Testing helps us assess your strength, flexibility, balance, and movement patterns so we can design a safe and effective exercise program tailored to your needs. These tests allow us to gain a baseline that can be compared and tracked over time.

What to expect?
Directed by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, you will work through a set of basic movements and strength checks that show how your muscles and joints function together, helping us identify any imbalances and highlighting areas that may need extra attention or improvement.

Equipment/clothing required?
Comfortable athletic clothing (eg t-shirt, shorts or workout pants), supportive athletic shoes, water bottle and towel are recommended.

Who would benefit from this service?
This is a routine session that all individuals are recommended to complete. Musculoskeletal testing is beneficial for anyone experiencing pain, stiffness, or movement limitations, as well as those wanting to prevent injury, improve performance, or maintain healthy joint and muscle function as they age.

Routine testing guidelines. (ie quarterly, biannually, annually)
It will be completed as part of your initial onboarding to CCA, then ideally every 3 months to monitor and assess progress. Musculoskeletal Strength Testing is also recommended following any period of absence and pre- and post-surgery.

Muscle Health Testing

Duration: 15min

What it is?
Good muscle strength and function is crucial for healthy ageing. This session evaluates your muscle health, falls risk, as well as provides education for prevention and management strategies.

What to expect?
Directed by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, you will work through a series of simple physical assessments, such as grip strength or sit-to-stand tests, that will measure your muscle strength and muscle function. These tests will determine your likelihood of poor muscle health and will guide prevention or management strategies with exercise and nutrition interventions.

Equipment/clothing required?
Comfortable athletic clothing (eg t-shirt, shorts or workout pants), supportive athletic shoes, water bottle and towel are recommended.

Who would benefit from this service?
Early detection of decline allows timely exercise and nutrition strategies to maintain independence, mobility, and overall wellbeing. Adults over 50, anyone noticing changes in strength or mobility, those undergoing medical treatment (eg chemotherapy), or those wanting to maintain independence and prevent age-related muscle decline (Sarcopenia) would benefit from this service.

Routine testing guidelines. (ie quarterly, biannually, annually)
Muscle health should be reviewed annually or after the occurrence of a major health event (eg fall, fracture, hospital admission, managing Sarcopenia).

Cost and rebates that apply
$65.00

Private health rebates may apply for eligible policyholders.

Medicare rebates may apply for those on a chronic disease management plan.

Sub Max VO2 Testing

Duration: 45min

What it is?
What is an Aerobic Assessment? This is a low-to-moderate intensity exercise test (such as walking or cycling) designed to measure how efficiently your body uses oxygen during activity. What is VO₂ Peak? During the test, we’ll estimate something called your VO₂ Peak. This stands for ‘peak oxygen uptake’, and it’s a measure of how much oxygen your body can use during the exercise task we are completing together. In simple terms, it helps us understand how well your heart, lungs, and muscles work together during physical activity. The higher the number (measured in ml/kg/min) the better the outcomes regarding aerobic and cardiorespiratory fitness.

What to expect?
The test is supervised by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist who will push you to a low-moderate effort level (submaximal). Depending on the reason you are completing the test you will have measures taken such as heart rate, blood pressure and a single lead ECG. You’ll receive your results and what they mean for your fitness plan. We will compare your data to normative data for your age group to measure your progress over time. All clients are screened for safety prior to commencing the test via a medical history questionnaire.

Equipment/clothing required?
Comfortable athletic clothing (eg t-shirt, shorts or workout pants), supportive athletic shoes, water bottle and towel are recommended.

Who would benefit from this service?
✚ Adults with heart or lung concerns, those starting a new exercise program, or anyone wanting baseline cardiovascular and respiratory measures for healthy ageing.

✚ Athletes in off-season or pre-season or weekend warriors wanting to set targets for performance.

You may be asked to engage in a low-to-moderate intensity exercise test (such as walking, step-ups or cycling) providing insight into your heart rhythm during activity. The Spirometry and Oxygen Saturation (O2 Sats) tests are completed using small hand-held devices to evaluate your lung health.
